What requirements should a good HTML mailing meet?

Have an HTML formatted by your webmaster to create a beautiful mailing to send. Only sending an image makes your mailing very sensitive to SPAM filters. When creating the HTML you should keep in mind that this HTML is correctly in the different mail programs should be displayed. Therefore your HTML should be as simple as possible, many mail programs cannot display advanced HTML.

Here are some important points to consider:

  • Avoid using DIV elements. Work with as much as possible the alignment TABLE element.
  • Integrate your CSS as much as possible in the elements themselves.
  • If you are using standalone CSS then you put it after the BODY element.
  • The using abbreviated color codes does not work. So always use the full color code. #FFFFFF instead from #FFF.
  • All references to images must through an absolute URL happen, so starting with http://
  • You use the images in your mail for the layout, for example photos. Avoid using images with text in processed, this makes the mail more spam-prone. Spam filters recognize images with text in them and assume that you have something to hide in terms of message and that your mail is so spam.
  • never use javascript in your mailing.

To send such HTML as a mailing, proceed as follows at work:

  • You copy-paste the HTML code in place where you normally enter the message.
  • You select no mail template.
  • You uncheck the Convert to HTML flag.
  • You send the mailing as you would send another mailing.
