In this article you will learn more about Google Analytics 4 (GA4), which events can be sent and how to install it for your website.

Difference between GA4 and GTM

Why?

  • For campaigns, find out through which channels the most reservations were made to determine what works best.
  • Checking mechanism to see if the widget is working properly and people not get stuck in a particular step.
  • Check how many people start a reservation but not complete it finish off.
  • Data and reports remain available for a long period of time.
  • Find out the demographics of your guests.

What is measured in the reservation widget?

! It is only possible to measure the reservation flow. It is not possible to collect data related to gift voucher or take-away purchases & delivery, promotions, special events, etc.

! When testing, always make sure that you do not use an active add blocker for your internet program as well as no incognito or private window.

Page Views

Every step within the reservation module is registered:

  1. First step: "/resengo/widget/reservation"
  2. Second step: "/resengo/widget/customerdata"
  3. Third step: "/resengo/widget/allergies" (optional)
  4. Fourth step: "/resengo/widget/extras" (optional)
  5. Fifth step: "/resengo/widget/overview"
  6. Sixth step: "/resengo/widget/confirmation"

Clicks

Following clicks are registered as important steps:

  1. View reservation (reservation screen is opened)
  2. Flow reservation started
  3. Flow reservation confirmed

How to install?

A) You already have Google Tag Manager installed on your website (Advanced configuration)

See knowledge article.

B) You already have a GA4-tag installed on your website.

If you have Google Analytics 4 installed directly and not through Google Tag Manager, you don't have to do anything. Resengo will automatically send the events to your trackingcode.

For deep-dive analysis you might require the need to define custom dimensions.
What are custom dimensions?

C) Resengo installs your GA4-tag within your widget

If necessary Resengo can include your GA4-tag as part of your widget installation. Please raise a ticket and include your GA4-tag. How to find your GA4-tag?

Troubleshooting

I can't see any results in Google Analytics.

  • Check that there is no addon for the Internet program blocker is active or that you do not have a private or incognito window used.
  • Check the Google Analytics filters. So there can for example apply a filter to the IP address from which you are booking.
  • Inspect your website's page and check in get through the network tab of events of Google Analytics.

The number of conversions does not match the number of reservations in Resengo.

  • Also include the number of reservations that have been cancelled became. These are not automatically deducted of the number of conversions in Google Analytics.
  • Not all reservations will be included as conversion because certain guests use or surf an add blocker from a private or incognito window. You can assume assume that the number of conversions in Google Analytics is increasing is lower than the number of reservations in Resengo.
  • Check the configuration of the website so that there are no multiple events are sent simultaneously.

Can I refer the guest at the end of the reservation to a thank you page?

  • This is not possible. In the last step of the reservation flow, we provide essential information for the guest such as the unique reservation number, a summary of the reservation, the e-mail address to which the confirmation sent by email, etc.
  • We recommend measuring conversions through events in to set as a goal.

How can I check the number of orders for gift vouchers or take-away & delivery?

Resengo currently only offers measurement of reservations.

How can I track Resengo conversion?

By reading below articles and using the Event information found in the GTM knowledge article, you can create the necessary custom events and flag them as conversions.

F.ex. by flagging only the sixth step "/resengo/widget/confirmation"

Why does Resengo send "PageViews" and "Clicks" and no custom event names?

By following the standard event names and only providing Resengo data in the event model's parameters, we ensure that every implementation either through GA4 or GTM can automatically receive the events.

In case you want to make a more elaborate analysis of your data, we expect you have the necessary skills in place to make the necessary configurations to support that analysis.
F.ex. by setting up GTM with triggers and tags or by settings up custom events and conversions in GA4.
